Freshman Dorms

Okay, now that I'm in I was wondering if anyone who goes to PSU or has visited could tell me what the nicest freshman residence hall is and how nice are they? Thanks

west, but its hard to get. most freshman get east, but theyre pretty ****ty.

I was there this past weekend..got a tour from a friend who is now a Senior. Yeah, west are very nice...mostly upper classmen (and women) Freshman dorms are pretty typical looking but she said that its the place to be when your a freshman..alot goes on outside in common area and everyone feels comfortable being together as 1st year students. She also said she made a big mistake living off campus sophmore year. Stay on campus at least 2 years.

Hey ill kinda bump this thread......how did Simmons Dorms look?

simmons dorms are awesome - definately bigger rooms than in east halls, and the hall is just generally nicer, cleaner, and closer to everything. east is nice for the freshmen environment, buti personally love living in south. there are still plenty of freshmen around, but having upper classmen around is an excellent opportunity to get advice on classes to take/professors to avoid/etc. oh yea, and simmons has a dining hall in the basement - oh so convenient when its raining/snowing/freezing and you don't want to go outside. =D

will have to remember Simmons! my son isn't a big nasty weather guy and I can picture him choosing to not eat since it's wet out LOL

Does anyone know how the BASH living option in North Halls is?

OK, I guess I should fill out everything and send it in with the 300 Dollars.

I'm gonna choose East just because that's where all of the Freshman Go.

Do you know how they choose your room-mate. I hope I get a good one :)

lol I hope i get a good one too Joey

I just got a letter in the mail today it said something about Discover House. Here's the website http://www.psu.edu/dus/discover/

Although it might be helpful,, I think I'm gonna Pass.

Discover House is great, in case anyone is interested. My daughter is currently in it. Its for people who are undecided or want to explore different options. But not everone in it is undecided. My d is on a floor of all discover house kids. They are all very close, and she has made tons of friends. She is in Beaver Hall which is a great location in the center of campus. All of Beaver Hall is made up of different living communities. My d had tons of friends from high school at Penn State to begin with, but Discover House really makes you close with kids from your floor. They have different activities planned, I think they saw a show together, and holiday party and some other things. Its a way that makes a big school alittle smaller. There are five or six classes that are only open to Discover House kids. My D took three. So basically everyone in those classes were people from her floor. They got very close with the teachers, and even met the teachers for dinner a few times. I know a few of her friends from high school who are in east halls, wish that they would have done Discover House. If anyone has any questions, I will ask my D.

roommates are pretty random. i think some might be matched up by major/concentration because my roommate and I are both biochem majors and next door both the girls are art majors and some others.
