Freshman Dorms?

So I'm pretty decided on attending UCSB, and I'm psyched for the social environment and good academics, etc, etc, etc

The only thing that seems weird is that only 23% of the student body lives on campus (info from website). I am definitely interested in living where the majority of the freshman live.

I don't want a big fancy apartment, or anything like that. I want the typical college dorm experience (at least the first year), big residence hall (co-ed) living in a double room and being right in the heart of the fun. Obviously I am looking for a busy, fun, freshman-populated area. Can anybody give me some pointers as to how to rank my housing choices? Thanks

San Nicolas is what you're looking for. the building is one of the older ones on campus, but i think they might be re doing it soon. nonetheless its big and the floors are co-ed as opposed to its neighbor San Miguel. its one of the more social dorms and you will most likely get to know everyone on your floor, or at least most of them. the rooms are small though. almost everyone is a freshman.

Thanks. Reading the housing website, it sounded like Francisco Torres was the cool place to be, but ill keep San nicolas in mind. thanks.

yeh i guess FT also. it houses like 1/3 of all the freshmen or something. although do realize that FT is farthest dorm from the campus, and i think it has the biggest rooms too...

FT is defiantly the place to be! You can bike to food stores, movies and restaurants. You are closer to IV. The biggest and nicest dorm rooms and private bathroom! FT is far from campus but you get used to it, plus it is a forced mini workout everyday. I live here now and last year this was 5th on my list but I still got it, I could not be happier.

Are you currently an RA at FT right now? I might know you.

Guys, for a 21 year old... would you prefer getting an apartment or living in the dorms the first year?

if you're 21, are you a xfer student? If so, they have floors for xfer students and I'd go for that. If you're a frosh, it might be a bit strange living with the other frosh who are 18. I'd ask housing if you could be on the xfer floors, otherwise would get an apartment.

I will be a freshman. I'm not a US citizen either so I guess it would be a lot easier to live in the dorms the first semester. We'll see what happens, I just wanted some opinions on this. I'll consider transfer floors.
