Freshman Experience Dining

Does anyone know when we can access Fall 2010 to set up dining plan for fall semester ?

Usually, the meal plan purchase comes during the late spring/early summer months. Each freshman (my son is currently a freshman) is required to take the lowest priced plan (this year, about $1,235 per semester plus the $300 dining dollars). If your child needs more meals, of course, you can purchase more.

Extra meals from the fall roll over to the spring (got a feeling my son will be offering his friends lots of meals because he only goes to Lakeside Dining a few times a week).

Momreads, what happens to the leftover Spring meals from the Freshman meal plan? Do we just lose those? I’m pretty sure D2 will get nowhere near eating all those meals at Lakeside–even for the lowest number, which I believe is still 10 per week??? Thanks.

Bikedad: My son told that if he stayed on that $1,235 plan, then the leftovers would roll over between years. Since he feels it would be a complete waste if he remained on the current meal plan, he will lose them at the end of his freshman year as he is changing to a different plan as a sophomore.

Even if you kept the same plan, meals do not roll over from the spring to the next fall

**Freshman Plan Terms
All meal plans are sold as a yearly contract. You will be billed for half of the amount in the fall. The remaining half of the annual price will be automatically billed to your Student Receivables account in the spring semester. Roll-over meals do not apply to canceled or down-graded meal plans. Roll-over meals only roll over from the fall to the spring semester. Any remaining meals at the end of the spring semester do not roll over into the summer semester or the following fall semester. Guest meals mean that you have the ability to use your meals for a guest for up to 10 times per semester. Guest meals will be deducted from your meal balance at the time of use.

For me, the 160 meal plan was way too much. To use up all my meals, I’ve been eating at Lakeside 2x a day 7 days a week. Also note that 10 of the meals are guest meals that the student can also use, but they are not reflected on the “meals remaining” window that pops up on the register. During the summer, you should be able to change or modify your meal plan for the upcoming fall and pay for it when you confirm your schedule.

Sea-tide: Thanks for making that correction on the meal plan for me.

My kids have the Bronze Plan which is about right for them.

You don’t lose unused Dining Dollars. They roll over to the spring, and if you have anything left, you can request a check refund at the end of the school year. Otherwise, they roll into Bama Cash.

My kids like Burke Dining the best. Since it’s by their tutoring job, they go there often.
