So my freshman high school GPA was only a 3.5 which isn't horrible, but it is bringing down my GPA. Will colleges notice this as they are looking at my transcript or will they just see my GPA, and not see how I have progressed through my years at high school? I don't want my poor freshman year to be the difference between acceptance and rejection if I am a borderline student.

They will see your transcript, so if you improve throughout the years, they will acknowledge that

They’ll definitely notice the progress. Colleges like to see an upward trend in GPA- it’s the sign of a good student, someone who cares about their education. Don’t worry about it hurting you.

They do notice the tredn but when it comes down to a student who has 4.0 freshman year vs a student with 3.5 GPA and everything else is equal, they will pick the 4.0 student.
