Freshman GPA

Autumn: 1.80
Winter: 3.39
Spring: ~3.4 (estimate)
.
.
.
Cumulative: ~2.8

Admitting that I have a terrible GPA for my first quarter, I would like to know if a cumulative GPA of 2.8~2.9 for the first year is acceptable from an UW student. Of course many factors come to play such as intended major and courses taken, but I seek none other than blunt opinions based solely on the general student population of UW-not particular majors. Thank you, all replies are very much appreciated.

First, awesome job getting the Winter GPA compared to your Autumn GPA!

a 2.8-2.9 is ‘slightly’ above average, if you think about it. For classes that don’t have inflated grades, a 2.7-2.8 is generally median (or mean, depends on the prof/dept). So with your upward trend, I think this is acceptable.

Question though, how can you estimate the spring GPA? There are factors such as what students are in your class or which professor you have (curve difference).

Totally true. But considering factors such as my determination, efforts, classes, and amount of classes, I make two very dark marks on the GPA scale-one very ambitious and one not so much. Those marks are the estimates. Haha, maybe those estimates are just my silly wishful thinking but they do help me work towards a goal

Thanks for your input!

Holey moley, what classes did you take in Autumn?

math 124, chem 142, psych 101 haha.

Hey, I am a freshman, too. Those are the exact same classes I took in the fall, except I had Math 125. I realized that I was no good at this stuff and ended up with a 2.6 GPA before switching to business. I ended with a winter quarter GPA of 3.79.

Don’t worry about it, I had a pretty mediocre GPA my freshman year, myself (not quite as low as yours, but still not pretty). I started working hard this year and have been doing well enough that I think the damage is repairable (3.87 this past quarter). As long as you show clear improvement, your freshman year is ignorable.

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone
