At the end of freshman year,
- I have a 4.3 GPA (weighted) and a 3.8 GPA (unweighted)
- I’m in my school’s academic team, quick recall team, and computer club.
- I’ve won multiple regional competitions for math and started on the quick recall team.
Question - am I on the right track for high school? I’m considering joining NHS and humanitarian club next year, but are there any major changes I should make?
Right track for what? You seem to be on track to attend college, and will likely have some good choices if you stay on the same academic trajectory. Your ECs sound fine for 99% of the schools out there.
That’s essentially what I meant; I’d like to use these to my advantage on applications and essays. Thanks for the help.
Do your ECs because you like them (and NHS, only do it if you like it – college’s don’t really care about it). Colleges want people who are interested and interesting. Don’t worry AT ALL about essays in relation to your ECs. You can mention them if they fit the topic, but many of the best essays don’t. In fact, don’t worry about your essays at all. Any topic you come up with now will be quickly discarded by your HS senior self.
