Freshman Honors Seminar

So Im on the fence about keeping my honors seminar on my schedule because honestly I don't see a point to spend money on a class that does not fulfill anything for my major/minor.

So basically what I am asking is what are the benefits to being in the honors seminar? Cause all I can think of is professor-student interaction + small class size. But there are tons of advanced seminars sophomore and junior year as well... Like it just seems that the school urges us to take the seminar so greatly but I dont really see a point to it. I'd rather just take another class for my major/minor. But then I don't want to regret my decision on not taking the seminar.

Sorry if this was a rant, but maybe outside opinions can help me make a decision...

actually, i’m wondering the exact same thing. when i met with my advisor, i told her i was interested in sociology, but apparently none of the intro classes were open. so she said i should try a freshman honors seminar taught by a sociology professor. now that i think about it, i feel that the seminar would be useless for me (digital technology in education? what was i thinking?)
i think i’m going to drop it, but not sure how i can get around to doing that, do we just talk to our advisor again?

Just go to Register on albert and you can add/drop classes.

@sunnysable: Make sure you have something reasonable to put in its place. You should definitely email your advisor before you make any changes to your schedule.

@citybound: If an honors seminar is interesting to you, then it’s definitely worth it to take it. Unless you predict your schedule is going to be extremely tight over the next four years, you aren’t losing anything. The advantage of honors seminars is that they allow you to really dive into something you’re interested in. Instead of taking introductory classes in a field, you get to focus on something cool. I’m taking the computer simulation seminar as opposed to taking any actual computer science courses. I’m a math major, and this is my chance to learn about something which I’d never be able to otherwise (it’d normally just be a small part of an entire introductory computer science class). At least that’s my view on them… I don’t really know what they’ll be like for sure because I’m an incoming freshman too.

i was supposed to take one but there was absolutely no room in my schedule for it. ;/
