How does NYU decide which students can take these classes? I would imagine that there are more students hoping to take these classes than actually can...

isnt that only for people who got into the presidential scholars program? or can anyone take the honors seminar???

I know some Sternies were given the option --- I was. I took it for one class then dropped out to fulfill requirements instead.

I think anyone can take them, but you register on a first come, first serve basis, so you may not get into your first choice.

They are definitely not reserved for presidential scholars

what exactly are they?

Seminars in various disciplines and focuses that meet once a week for, I believe, two and a half hours. They're worth 4 credits, but satisfy no requirements. Topics range from politics to history to science to music...

does anyone know how quickly they filled up last year? I really want to get into my 1st or 2nd choice seminars, but I am in a later orientation session (D), so will this hurt me???

so, how does the university decide who can take the classes? I would imagine some are in really high demand, what criterion would they use?

Anyone?

CAS Presidential scholars get first priority. They get to choose before they even register for other classes. There were students from the other schools in them too, but I remember someone saying that, for example, there were only two spots for Tisch students per seminar, and I'm guessing these spots go to scholars from the respective school too. The remaining spots are open to non-scholar cas students first-come-first-served, but unfortunately they fill up really fast. If you're in a later orientation session, you'll probly still get a seminar but it may not be the one you want. However, there are similar honors seminars for upperclassmen called collegiate honors seminars (it's a new program), so if you don't get the Freshman one you want or can't fit one into your schedule, you'll still have the opportunity to take one of these seminars later.

If they reserve spaces for Tisch students, would they also reserve a certain number of spaces for CAS students from different orientation dates, or do they let popular seminars fill at the first orientation?

I'm really interested in taking a particular class, and I'm going to be really disappointed if I can't take it. I have the first orientation date, so I'm hoping for the best! Is there anything I can do?

I am a Deans Scholar at Steinhardt. I recieved an Honors Seminar reply form in the mail a month ago, I sent it in yesturday...Does that mean I will be getting into one of them automatically...I think people are confusing MLK Presidential Scholars which are only a variation of the "Scholars Program" title...Every school has their own title, for the Deans Scholars Program, I am assuming...
