I’ve already committed to Mac for fall of 2015 (go Scots!) and I visited the campus this past weekend. I wanted to ask if anyone knew how freshmen are placed in dorms?? I’m praying I don’t get placed in Dupre but I don’t know if the lawd is on my side. I am definitely going to live in the language houses my sophomore year but until then, according to Mac’s website, my options are Dupre, Doty, and Turck Hall.
Is there anything I can do to maybe raise my chances of not being placed among “Duprisoners of Dupre”??
Also, I’m from California and I have zero clue if I should buy my stuff in MN or try to bring all my stuff with me via airplane luggage.
Thanks!!
Hey, I’m a current Macalester student who actually lives in Dupre–it isn’t as bad as we make it out to be, really. Singles sound pretty bad, but your odds of getting one are lower next year since many of them are being given to sophmores. Also, a few weeks into the year most of my friends in singles were very glad for the privacy. Dupre also is the only dorm with a real sense of community (mostly due to the layout of the floors encouraging hanging out in the central lounges). Dupre also has Quads, which are great if you can get one.
Anyway, Dupre tends to be the very social, active dorm. If you want to avoid Dupre, you can select options on the roommate survey that will give you a better chance of avoiding it. Stuff like going to bed early and hall community not being important would be safe bets.
Also heads up, depending on the language you speak house application can be quite competitive, so don’t get your heart set on it.
