My S is not decided on Temple yet, and likely will not until the end of April after other RD decisions come in - I’ve heard stories of students making last minute decisions (May?) and not getting freshman housing-- thoughts? or experiences?
Thanks!
is he honors? cause if so housing is guaranteed. if not, tougher decision. although housing deposit is refundable until May 1st, you have to put down tuition deposit first which is not refundable, if i remember right. housing used to be at a premium at temple, with the addition of morgan(dorm) and the view(off campus apts next to campus), it should be easier to get housing now as both of these housing units are sizable
Thank you ! No he is not honors which is why I’m a little anxious about it …
my opinion then is that it is worth it to put down the deposit and risk losing the money, please double check with Temple to make sure i am right in that the tuition deposit is not refundable but housing is at least until May 1st. my guess is that he “might” be ok due to the housing additions mentioned above if you don’t put down deposits until later. However, this is Temple, Safe housing is at a premium and best not to take chances. last year, tuition deposit was $200 and housing was $250.
I was an incoming freshman last year and I didn’t apply pick my housing until the middle of May. There were spots but only in the least popular dorms.
Also if there are none the View would most likely have spots and that’s literally on campus. And rooms would probably open up by the next room change process a few weeks in.
(And honors does not have guarenteed housing anymore, btw.)
i think honors still has guarenteed housing but u have to stay in 1300. u can’t use honors housing to go to morgan for example. although i saw your other posts that u are on the honors admission team. did they drop guaranteed housing recently> it is still showing up as a perk on the honors website so that should be updated if guaranteed housing is no longer available. but back to OP, it may be wisest to pay the housing deposit now and risk losing deposit if her son ends up somewhere else rather than scrambling to find something in may
Thanks all - Is it right though to send deposit in as an official accepted student while we are just waiting for other acceptances? Much appreciated-
i think that is why they make it non-refundable. That discourages people from saying yes, i plan to go to Temple unless they are serious about it. however, this is a slight inconvenince, and i do mean slight for Temple if you change your mind so i would say go ahead and do it. Your kid getting into safe acceptable housing is more important than upsetting Temple if you change your mind.
