My S was accepted to Auburn, and although he hasn’t made a final decision to attend, I’m wondering if we should submit a housing deposit for him so he doesn’t lose out on a room on campus? I’ve read that only 65% of freshmen are housed on campus, so it appears that getting a dorm room could be problematic/competitive. I realize we will have submit a non-refundable school deposit as well, but I’m willing to risk losing the money because I want to make sure that if he does attend, he has somewhere to live on campus. I don’t want to do anything unethical; it just looks like the housing deposit deadlines are well in advance of the May 1 date that attendance notifications are due. Any insight would be much appreciated!
I would go on and send in the deposit. Check the “Auburn Honors Housing” thread - whether your S is applying for Honors or not, the housing rationale pretty much still applies.
@grimss my DD has several options & hasn’t selected her school yet but we are both concerned about housing. You are not supposed to send in multiple deposits but it’s the only way to get a ‘spot in line’. Sending in a deposit to guarantee housing puts the kids in an unfair position to make a pre-mature decision. I do not want to do anything unethical either, any advice would be helpful from those who have done this already.
