hey! so, i just got admitted to usc and i’ve had nothing to do but obsessively research because we’re all quarantined, and i have some concerns about housing. basically, i’m a really social person and i love making friends and that kind of thing, but i also kinda want the ac and non-communal bathrooms. i’ve heard that the suites aren’t really the most social (especially about parkside), but is there a way to maybe balance that, maybe with fluor? or should i forego my love for temperature regulation and private bathrooms for something like birnkrant?
My older daughter was very similar. She only wanted an apartment or suite. She found a future roommate here via CC, and they picked Webb (an apartment) and Fluor (suites) for all of their preference choices… matching their picks and order exactly. That is exactly what USC Housing recommends… as it makes it easy to satisfy two people simultaneously. It also enhances your odds of getting what you want. Webb is unfortunately not an option anymore for freshmen, so in your case, I would make yours Fluor as the top choices and then Parkside (unless you can choose a Village suite you like better). You can still be social. In some ways, it may be better to walk over to a dorm setting, be super social there, and then return to the comfort and convenience of your suite with private bath and A/C. Plus you are bound to make friends where you actually live too. Dorm living, especially with no A/C and a communal bath room, is not for everyone. It certainly was not for my two daughters. But some love it. So find a partner, apply for Housing via their portal the second you can, and pick each other and use the exact same order for preferences. And you should receive one of those preferences. In my daughter’s case, they got #1 doing in that way. Good luck…
