Freshman Housing

Can someone remind me how far the “freshman dorms” (I forgot the name of the far housing area). Is from the main campus? Do most kids there walk or take the BC bus? Thanks Londondad

@londondad‌- the freshman housing you are asking about is called Newton. It is about a five minute bus ride to the main campus where classes are held. Students take the bus to classes and can track the bus schedule on their phones. I hope this helps.

Thanks. Two follow up questions - are the buses free ones provided by the University? and are they reliable?

@londondad‌- the buses are free and are reliable. They come quite often and are filled with students. They are smaller than an average bus and go back and forth from the Newton campus to the main campus. Incoming freshman will be housed on either Newton or upper. Students find out their room assignments in late July to early August.

ldad:

to be clear, ~60% of Frosh dorms are on main campus. The other 40% of Frosh are housed on the Newton campus, 1.5 miles away. (And the bus ride is only 5 minutes in the wee hours of the morning. During rush hour, it can be longer.)

Busses loop around constantly.

Is it just luck where a freshman winds up? Newton seems less desirable. True?

@mauswa- it is pure luck where you end up in regards to freshman housing. Upper campus is located on campus and Newton is a couple miles off campus. The Newton students seem to love where they live and the Newton campus has a very tight knit community. No matter where you end up living, students seem to be very happy.

While awaiting the bus can be a PIA sometimes, generally, by the end of Frosh year, students loved their dorm experience, regardless of campus.

(btw, I know of students from main campus who bus over to Newton for a dinner “date”. Rumor has it that food is better there, but I think that is just spin.)
