Housing

I visited BC and the admissions rep who ran the eagle-eye session said that a good number of freshmen live on Newton. I don’t think I would want to, though. How hard is it to get housing on the main campus? Who, if anyone, gets preference?

If possible, I think you should at least visit Newton campus, it's a wonderful place. About 2/3 lives in Upper and the last third at Newton. You can put which place you prefer, but that doesn't guarantee Upper.

no one (as far as i know) gts preference to housing freshman year unless you have a medical condition that would make it impossible for you to live on either newton or upper.

as a newton kid who originally requested upper i say give newton a chance!! the community is really amazing, you feel like you know everyone, the only real downside is the bus and even that has its sentimental moments. i think its a really great experience and my loyalities will always lie with newton.

if you say that you would be okay with a forced triple (3 people in a double and housing discount) youre more likely to get put on upper, but of course in a forced triple. definetly not worth it in my opinion.

all that put aside, youre 95% likely to wind up loving whereever you live freshman year so it doesnt matter.

My son was told by several different people in the Admissions and Housing Offices that if you request Newton, you are likely to get Newton because far more people ask for Upper.

However, as other posters have indicated, Newton isn't bad -- just different. Taking the bus to campus can be a pain, but that is offset by better food (there seems to be no argument that the dining hall at Newton, shared with the Law School, is the best) and also the strong bonding at Newton (since it is all freshmen).

If you ask for Newton you get it. 100% of the time.

Dear newyork09 : The only upper campus guarantee is that honors program students can request (and receive) housing at Medieros on upper campus. (May the incoming freshman class continue the Medieros tradition!)

I have just finnished up my freshman year living on Newton campus and I can say that living on upper is a much better idea. I was actually one of the very few people who requested to live on Newton and it was a big mistake. You live around all freshman on upper (there will be a few sophmores there this year since BC couldn't fit everyone in everywhere else, but they aren't dispersed with the freshman crowd, they live seperately), you don't have to take the bus to do everything (either going to or from class or parties (you'll have to take two buses and leave early to make sure you can get home from a Comm Ave party) or football games or anything else). Most people who lived on Newton don't end up hating it, but that shouldn't be confused with actually liking it. You just meet your group of friends there and bond with the campus since your there so much.
