Freshman Housing

Which dorms are the best for freshman? I have heard good things about central campus and the hill, and bad things about north campus. I know ultimately its a pretty random selection process, but I would love to know the pros and cons of the various dormitories and which ones would provide the best freshman experience.
I’m excited to be a wolverine next year! Go Blue!

It really depends. Freshmen at Music school may really want to stay in the North Campus if they need to practice in the evening. After all, freshmen cannot choose which dorm or area other than answering that question about North Campus preference. Unless you are accepted by one of the residential programs in the central campus, 70% of freshmen will be assigned to the North Campus anyway.

Billsho is correct - most freshmen are automatically assigned to North Campus. My son didn’t want to live on North Campus so he applied to two learning communities and ended up choosing the Alice Lloyd Scholar Program. He lived in Alice Lloyd hall (newly remodeled) freshman year and he LOVED it. He still lives with guys from his floor freshman year. He’s a junior now. They are all writers (English majors or screenwriting majors) so it’s pretty cool they are still friends and share a passion for writing. Alice Lloyd also is a community for artists as well. So if one of the learning communities sounds like a fit for you, you should apply. Being part of a learning community is one of the few ways to live on central campus freshman year.
