Freshman in college taking to many units!!

Hey you guys. I am a freshman currently attending a community college. My goal is to transfer to a Uc (Berkley, Davis, or Irvine) after obtaining my 60 transferable credits. My problem is that I am taking more Units than I can handle. I am currently taking 18 units: French (5 units), English (4 units), Counseling (1 unit), Geography (3 units), and Intermediate Algebra (5 units) and I wanted to drop geography since i have no idea what is going on in that class. My question is how will a W affect my chances of getting into a UC?? How great of an impact is a W overall?? Does 1 W actually matter A LOT??

As long as you keep the W’s to the minimum (I would say 1-2 W is fine). Try not to withdraw another class for the rest of your college career.

If you are asked about it in the future, explain that you took on more than you could handle in your first semester, realized this, and made an adjustment, framing it as a mature decision. You are probably better off dropping that course and succeeding in all the others than letting the overload drag down everything for the semester. Also, does your CC not have an add/drop period in which you can drop courses without them ever appearing on your transcript? Or has that already passed?
