They probably want to be sure everyone gets properly signed up and everyone has help available if the classes their advisor told them to take are closed! I’d go to the library, unless you are very familiar with how it all works.

You go to the library to get help registering you need it. Not going to the library would get you out faster and possibly get you a better schedule, as freshman classes can fill up very quickly during the day at orientation. The rest of your time at IU, you will be registering on your own every time, beginning in November for the Spring 2011 session. So you will need to learn how to register on own your own pretty quickly.

Here are registration instructions.

If you have uncertainty, it is probably best to go to the library.

Do you think they would remove my hold if i were to call and ask them?

indycarkid, I don’t think they will remove your hold. They really want you to meet with your advisor before registering for classes, which is why the hold is there in the first place. But toffa is correct, if you already know how to register than you can do it either on a laptop or in Teter, where you register (unless you’re an Honors student or Kelley DA).

Thanks for this great info.
My husband is at IU with my son, and I am anxiously waiting to hear how it all goes.
Appreciate all the comments and suggestions.

My D wasn’t able to get a wi-fi connection except at Biddle where we were issued a security code. She tried that, as well as her student account, while at Wright. She said she was able to get on VERY briefly, then couldn’t get access again. Just FYI to anyone trying to register on their own. I don’t know why, could have been a bad spot in Wright, or a glitch. ??

linz1990,

I did not quite understand the part of “unless you’re an Honors student or Kelley DA”.

Would you please elaborate on that?

Thanks

I think HHC students and Kelley students still have to meet with an adviser at orientation before registering. My son was in both and met with a Hutton adviser.

I meant that honors students and Kelley DAs will meet their advisors in a different location (not in Teter), but they can still try to register in the same building where they do their advising.

bthomp1,

Thanks as always.

Freshmen will also have to meet with their advisors before they register for the spring term - as my DD found out the day before she was scheduled to register. She was in university division and went to see if the advisors in her dorm would release the hold on her registration but the advisor would not do so because she was supposed to see an honor’s college advisor.

Hutton met their advisors at Hutton College (gorgeous new building near the Union). But I think everyone registers at the Wells Library.

And…“Hoosiermom”…I called about the “University Division” that was on my D’s paperwork (though she’s direct admit to CAS) …they said everyone (? maybe not Kelly, or music school?) will show that designation until such time as they register, THEN … if they’re direct admits their paperwork will show that after that time.
