I have a question regarding the freshman orientation. We logged on today to pay the deposit and multiple sessions are already full. Since all the colleges have just finished announcing their decisions (my son heard from his last two just this past Thursday), how could this be full already? Our son decided early but most kids we know are doing revisits, etc and making decisions up until May 1, which I believe is also the deadline for UT. We were confused by this since we thought we had until May 1 to decide. Unfortunately we can’t make any of the dates that are still available, so we just signed up for one in hopes we’d be able to access a “wait list” for one of the sessions that are already full. Anyone with any insight/experience on this? Would be grateful for any info or wisdom y’all can share. Thanks!
Typically when you sign up for Orientation - they don’t force you to make the payment right away. Some people do and other’s don’t. In the past I’ve seen slots open up in earlier sessions and yes I believe you can grab one of those slots. So just monitor that portal and make a habit of logging in to check. Remember people could have also signed up for a spot and will decide they don’t want to go to UT - so these positions open up. Remember you can always send an email to orientation or call them and ask this very question.
Thank you. We will keep checking back on the portal daily and we will contact orientation directly as well.
I just wrote this in another thread, but Texas’ orientation portal opened on March 5. Thousands of kids had already committed by then. UT was my daughter’s first choice, she heard in December and committed back then, so our deposit was already paid. I would think most people have already made their decisions and only a few stragglers are still left.
Also, I think a lot of people also pay the deposit to hold their spot and then if they change their mind just cancel and risk losing it. For some people it’s a small price to pay in the long run.
If you can’t make any of the dates, your son can do the orientation in August just before classes begin.
