Freshman Orientation

When is every one going? What are some popular weekends?

That’s my question, too. Why freshman orientation is in June not in the first week of fall semester?

First week of the semester has orientation activities as well, but trust me it is just as hot or hotter! But the real reason is that people can use the orientation information in June to make certain decisions regarding dorms and the like if they wish, plus many people get advising and register for classes then. This can’t wait until August, obviously.

We just got back from orientation for my dgt’s university at Slippery Rock University. They have 5 or 6, starting in late March and going through the end of June. She got her class schedule, 9:00 am classes every day, her housing assignment and her roommate. She has facebooked her roommate and so they can get acquainted a bit before she even hits that first day. It was so organized and well planned. They had breakout sessions with those in their majors, they met with professors too. She was the only dance major there so she got a lot of 1-1 time with one of the professors and really was able to answer questions. She honestly has been a little nervous about the prospect of leaving home. She says she is not like typical high school seniors, she is perfectly happy doing what she is doing now. But, after the orientation she is now really excited to be going.

I’m going June 1st-June 2nd.
