Freshman Outdoor Orientation Trips

Hey-

I just wanted to let everyone out there know about a program that I'm a part of at Yale that is incredibly awesome: Freshmen Outdoor Orientation Trips (FOOT). There are similar outdoor orientation programs at many schools and I strongly urge you to do one wherever you go.
About 400-500 Freshmen each year do FOOT; it's the largest of the orientation trips by far.
On FOOT, you go on four or six day trips in the woods with seven to nine other freshmen and two upperclass leaders during the days before Yale begins. You get back to Yale the same day all the other Freshman who didn't do stuff do, but you have learned about Yale and gotten to know two upperclassmen really well as well a group of freshme. Everyone I know who did FOOT loved it and many people who didn't do it wish they had.
There are trips of all different skill levels. If you've never hiked before there's a place for you, and if you've climbed the alps blindfolded we've got a trip for you too. Seriously. I had almost no backpacking experience and I loved FOOT so much that I trained up and became a leader!
I strongly urge everyone to take a look at the info- it's at www.yale.edu/foot.
Post if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them.

Good luck to everyone in the college process!

how does it compare to dartmouth's dimensions of dartmouth (about which i've heard rave reviews), and when are the prospective dates?

Dartmouth also has an excellent program. I highly recommend doing theirs if you go to Dartmouth, but you should go to Yale; they each follow similar trails, have a similar structure, and rock. In fact, we pass Dartmouth on some of our trips.
The dates are, depending on which FOOT trip you do:
Aug 20-26th
Aug 22-26th.
