My daughter received her roommate assignment in the mail today, and when she called the girl she was told that the girl would no longer be attending FSU. My daughter now has a room assignment in Landis, but no roommate. Has anyone else had this experience? When will she get assigned a new roommate and how will she find out about it? Should we contact housing and let them know? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Housing likely knows and just has not assigned a new roommate. There is A LOT of movement in June and July. Some students decide not to go away to school, others get off the waitlist somewhere else and take the spot. The assignment process is complicated and begins in April/May even before the class is finalized. It is that complicated.

Housing is currently oversubscribed. You D will certainly have a new assignment. And she will be notified. I would sit tight and instead of calling, have D email. The office is crazy right now.

There are students who did not yet get any assignment and are on a waitlist. Some have been assigned “study” rooms or have been given a triple assignment in a double. Those are just temporary until everything shakes out. Don’t worry, your D will have a roommate.

Thanks so much, sunnyflorida. Your information is very helpful!
