Freshman rooming question?

Hey guys, I've been accepted to SB as an out-of-state applicant.

I have some concerns about housing. I have severe eczema all over my body, and thus wish to request a single room as living with a roommate would be extremely inconvenient for the both of us
(my mom even refuses to enter my bedroom sometimes because it smells like blood when my skin is really exacerbated).
I would prefer to live in a residence with AC.

What procedures do I have to go through to request a single room, and as an undergraduate freshman, am I allowed to apply to one of the apartments?

Also, what do you guys think of off-campus housing, because I'm considering apartments/room for rents near SB if I can't get a single

I would prefer to live in a residence with AC. <– Pick Science and Society as your highest interest on the perference form, corresponds to Roth Quad which is the only one with AC.

You need to be a junior and 3.0 gpa.

Single room however, that I can’t tell you but you can try calling or emailing Campus Residences explaining the circumstance asking [Stony Brook University - Campus Residences](<a href=“Campus Residences | Stony Brook University”>Campus Residences | Stony Brook University)

Though I don’t think there are any single rooms left for undergrads, they are in very high demand and the grad students get them first.

Thanks! =)

Yes definitely i’d call and explain the circumstances…they might make some exceptions and work something out for you.

I couldn’t find it just now, but I recall reading they consider medical exceptions to place freshman into single rooms. I’d call the housing office.

Campus Residences will make every effort to meet the medical needs of students who demonstrate a need for a single room. Every residential community does have a small number of ADA accessible rooms for students who utilize wheelchairs. A student who believes that s/he needs a single room for medical reasons must contact the clinical social worker in the Student Health Services at (631) 632-6740. S/he will meet with the student to discuss his/her specific needs, and if appropriate, s/he will make a referral to the Department of Campus Residences.
