Post your classes after your A&O! Just for fun :) I haven't had mine yet.

Chem 142
Math 124
Intro to psych (what is it like 101 or something) haha im so excited!

bothell – are you taking a FIG?

nope! thought about taking a fig + an extra class for 17 credits but couldnt get everything to work out with class times

FIG 51 (english 131, math 124, and gen st 199) + Chem 142

^^^ must have a pretty busy schedule? That chem lab is killer huh!!?

Take Psych 101 with King. He’s funny.

ARCH 151, ENGL 111, PSYCH 101 + that stupid FIG class since I’m doing one. I really don’t want to, but it seems like a good way to get my feet wet and to ease myself into college. It was also really difficult to find a schedule that worked for me.

what’s the benefit of a FIG? i heard there’s some pretty big negative about it but i forgot. something that has to do with credits or something? im signing up for classes in about 2 weeks so please respond soon. also, did everyone look up classes beforehand and had choices in mind before going to a&o, or did you guys just sign up with what you guys thought was good at the moment when it was time to choose?

I haven’t had A&O yet, but I think FIG benefits are basically making first quarter scheduling more simple via a packaged set of classes (instead of slogging through getting lots of different class schedules to work together) and having those classes + FIG group class-thing with a group of other freshman, so you have an easier time getting to know people when you start college. As far as disads, I’ve heard the 1-credit FIG “group” class (Gen St 199) is deathly boring and pointless, and also a few of the FIG packages are only 12-13 credits, so you’d need to schedule in another class to reach min credit requirements.

I’d also like some input on class pre-selection.

Oh, and ilikeUW, is your A&O July 25/26? Or sometime else?

CSE 142

English 131
Econ 200
Fig 87!

Thanks for the reply. And yes, my a&o is july 25/26

The FIG class is more work than it’s worth in credits. It’s a cakewalk of course, but does take your time. You have to write several “Your university experience”, “Your Husky experience”, “Your freshman experience”, “How do you like this school”, “Now that it’s over, how do you like this school now”, papers. Wasted my time.

Was doing a FIG worth it though? In terms of meeting new people and stuff like that, like they kind of advertise it as.

i didn’t think the fig was worth it… i took it so i could get into a class i needed, but they made us do field trips and writing dumb papers and all this stuff. and if anything, it held back my friendships. i made a LOT more friends the other 2 quarters cus i could socialize with who i wanted and wasnt akwardly stuck with the same 30 people

So if I didn’t do a FIG, I would have to choose each of my three classes individually?

BTW, how was a&o? I don’t think I will be seeing a single person I know at it. What’s it like? And what goes on besides choosing classes and placement tests?
