Soooo I'm gonna be a freshman at UW and I already went to orientation :)

My class schedule consists of..

A FIG which is:
English 198
Psychology 101
General Studies (it goes along with the FIG)
= 12 credits.

I thought 12 credits was kind of a little short.. So I added Chemistry 142 also.
= 17 credits.

What should I do.. Should I keep my 17 credit schedule or drop CHEM for 12 credit schedule?

PRO: I'll be having more credits. I'll make more use of my time with 3 classes per quarter
CON: My chem class is 8:30AM in the morning and 17 credits sounds a little too much because I'm taking chemistry with it and I heard chemistry is really hard at UW.

Try out chemistry for week one, and if it’s too much, drop it with no penalty. Most of my friends who decided on a FIG schedule are in the same situation. They think 12 credits is too little, 17 credits might be too hard. They took an extra class just in case their 12 credits were a breeze for them though (they’ve taken AP or IB equivalent and scored well, but want to retake the material). If the workload seems to be too much for them, they’ll drop the last 5 credit-course and just concentrate on those 12 credits.

I think you’ll be more than fine. The 2 credit FIG class is barely any work at all, and even from the people I know who have complained about the chem series, the consensus is that 142 is fine, but 152 ramps up the difficulty a bit. I vote completely to keep the chem - it will feel just like an ordinary 15 credit quarter.

english and psych are very doable. adding chem should be no problem, but as was mentioned you can always drop int he first week or so without any penalty.
