Here’s my two cents (as a current freshman):
Take what she is comfortable with.
Even if she is dreaming of an Ivy for college right now- plans change and acceptance rates are very low. So don’t base your entire life (because school CAN take over your life) on getting into to top universities.
However, keep it mind. If she is college bound, honors classes are a good idea. We only have technically one freshman AP class (APUSH), but that obviously varies school to school.
Don’t push it to hard, because burning out freshman year can prove to be problematic.
Take harder classes in what you excel at, and tread carefully with subjects you don’t. Lastly, make sure to throw an elective that you actually enjoy. Work hard and play hard.
My schedule:
H English
H Algebra II
H Biology
AP US History
H Computer Science
H Engineering
French 3-4
Best of luck! (Sorry for the novel).
This was my freshman schedule, back in 2009-2010 school year
PE (required)
Geometry Accelerated (no honors available)
Biology Accelerated (no honors available)
English 9 (no accelerated/honors available)
Geography (required, no accelerated/honors/ap available)
Health/Computers, 1 semester each (required)
My high school absolutely sucked for freshman. There were only 2 accelerated classes offered to us, no honors, and no ap.
I would tell her to plan for sciences first and foremost. If she wants to go into AP Bio/Chem, make sure she leaves room in freshman/sophomore year to take the Honors Bio and Honors Chem.
