I got the acceptance e-mail for the Freshman Science Honors Program yesterday and just wanted to get a thread started for the others that got accepted. Perhaps we could even start a facebook group since it seems that one hasn't been created.

For those that did not get accepted, I am sorry. Realize that a rejection from this program isn't anywhere close to the end of the world. From the many threads that I've read about this particular program, I have learned that although the FSH has its set of advantages, it by no means puts us WAY ahead of the other science students. Also, only 60 students (according to the letter) out of the thousands of admits get selected for this program. Assuming that 60 is only out of 2000 students (I believe that number is 600 off of the ENROLLED freshmen, not even the admitted) that's only 3 percent of the freshmen class. Nothing to be ashamed of.

I suppose we can use this thread as a forum for those admitted. But I'd like to see if I can get all 60 admits on this thread.

@zdmw93 according to the invitation I received, “[t]his program is limited to 60 students.” That being said, I don’t believe only 60 are admitted (probably a bit over 100), simply because of the inevitable fact that not all admitted students will attend USC and/or choose to a part of the program.

I made it, but I’m not sure if I’ll be attending since I’m an international student with no aid whatsoever. It doesn’t really feel that selective though, but again, that might just be me.

I’m trying to figure out the advantages of the program and decide if it’s worth the tuition. ;;

Congratulations to the acceptances as well!

I just saw the courses online, so we will be taking Advanced Biology and Chemistry courses with labs both fall and spring semester.

Do any of you guys have information about some of the specifics of this program, such as homework, level of difficulty, and when the classes meet?

All I know is that it’s an advanced version of what other biology/chemistry students take. BTW, since Birnkrant is an honors/scholars house, does that mean we get priority in being assigned to that house?

@thankyou4flying although i have an idea of the difficulty levels and amount of homework for the advanced classes, i think it’d be better if you just contacted Judy Haw yourself. she’s really helpful in answering your questions.

@zdmw93 Birnkrant is primarily a Trustee and Presidential Scholars house. according to the website “select” students are also given priority. i don’t know if that necessarily means that FSH and TO students will be given priority, but hopefully. :]

Were you able to interact with other FSH program members? Daughter would like to find a potential roommate from the group for Fall 2011. Deadline drawing near…

@wsya2011: Try to get her to join the USC Class of 2015 facebook group. Lots of people there are just like her, actively trying to find room mates.
