You only have to take one instead of the regular two if you get a 5 on either of the AP English tests right?

Which are some of the less writing intensive ones? Obviously a "writing seminar" will involve a good amount of writing, but I imagine that some more so than others. Are there any that are notorious for being a lot less/more work than others? I hate writing (college is gonna be greeeaatt) so the less I have to do of it the better. I don't mind if there's a lot of reading for the class, but I'd appreciate minimal amount of writing.

If anyone has specifically taken the Plant pathology, horticulture, or astronomy ones I'd love to hear about those.

On the website it says "Agriculture and Life Sciences students may take two first-year writing seminars or choose from among a variety of other courses to complete their requirement." What does this mean exactly? What are those "other courses"?

Depends on the grad student teaching it.

that website is pretty vague about the CALS requirement!

somewhere in this shiny new document is the info you need:

search for the terms “written and oral expression”
if you want to see course descriptions, check out the Cornell Courses of Study.

question…I got a 5 on my AP english language exam last year…would taking the AP exam this year and getting a 4 or 5 on it too, would that exempt me completely out of having to take writing seminar or no?
Because I’m debating on whether or not to take the ap exam…and I would rather not…thanks :p

also since I only have to take one writing seminar can I take it in the spring and just not take one in the fall or do they make you get it over with right away?

@Iwannbeavet, you can only be exempt from one writing seminar.

@krmh11, You can probably take it in the spring.

I am not sure if this varies by college, but I can speak for HumEc.

I used my AP English Language score of 5 to get out of a FWS for 1 semester. You have to take at least 1 semester of a FWS–you may not use AP credit for 2 semesters. Also, it is okay to take your 1 FWS Spring semester. This is exactly what I am doing.

the main difference I know in college variation is that you can also get credit for a 4 in CALS.
