Freshman year difficulty for Ross

I understand that the acceptance rate for applicants for after freshman year within lsa is approximately 47%, but i am wondering how difficult is it to get approximately a 3.8ish at mich during your freshman year including the prerequisite courses one must take in order to be considered for ross?

this will play a large role in my decision between marshall and lsa non preadmit.

any help is appreciated, especially input from current/past students.

3.8 is going to be really tough.

out of all my friends, i'd say only two of them have a 3.8 or better. the thing is, they're ALWAYS studying. i've never seen them at any social events either.

even if you're really smart, you're going to have to put in A LOT of work.

hm. how difficult would it be to get a GPA good enough to have a reasonable to good chance of getting into ross sophomore year? what would that gpa be?

Freshman year, I had a 3.8, and I made it to Ross. (Once in Ross, I found it harder to maintain and now fell quite a bit from that :(.) The average of accepted students is a 3.6. Most applicants will have around a 3.5-3.7. The ones under that usually don't apply. In this sense, the applicant pool is self-selecting. Since most applicants have solid GPAs, there should be other factors that distinguish you as well. Some 4.0's get rejected.

Higher than in 2006, where the middle 50% GPA was 3.3 to 3.8. You probably stand a pretty good chance with a 3.5 GPA... a generalization. There are several other factors that bear on admittance, so it's really hard to say what GPA is needed.

what other steps should be taken to maximize one's chances? joining groups/clubs, showing leadership (how would one demonstrate this as a freshman?), recs from professors (i'm not sure if this is possible)? also, if i were to do an internship this summer (my senior year/pre freshman summer) could i use that in my application during my sophomore year?

Jth11688 , Im in the same position as you. Am planning on applying to Ross in my freshman year and have all the same doubts as you do .

As for the application , as it becomes available in December of 2007 they ask you for all you have done in the past 11 months and therefore a summer internship would be useful.

Leadership can be shown in any field , you could join a club and help organize an event , you could form and captain a team for an intramural sports competition and the like. Basically take iniative .

Recs from professor? Since the professors barely know the names of most of their freshman students , I doubt this is an option. Does the application even ask for them?

You will have to take a challenging couseload as well and do well in it (3.5+). Mmm , I would reccomend attending some of Ross's information talks.

Get involved, take tough classes, and rock em! =)

Don’t worry about recommendations, they won’t accept them.

“3.8 is going to be really tough”

Assuming it’s LSA, 3.8 isnt hard as long as you steer clear from math/hard science majors.

So 3.6 is the average GPA for Ross applicants? Does that include both LSA and engineering? What’s the average GPA for admitted Ross applicants from COE? I’m assuming significantly lower than 3.6.

Well most students who get accepted to Ross from CoE don’t have that much lower GPA.

No actual statistics but every single one of my COE friends with 3.2+ got in.
