<p>My cousin is halfway through completing his freshmen year. He did not join any clubs this year and would like to know if it will deeply affect his college applications. </p>

<p>BTW he shouldn't join clubs just for the sake of colleges. He should join clubs to have fun, meet people, travel and to LEARN! yea... so tell him to join a few clubs that he likes. Freshman year is the year that it is best to try a bunch of clubs and see which ones he likes so that he can continue them over the next three years.</p>
<p>Actually, for all the clubs that I put down on my application, I didn't put any down for freshman year, and I don't really think that's going to considerably mess up my chances for college. I just experimented a lot freshman year with different clubs and found that none of them were really to my satisfaction. So I tried out new ones sophomore year and stuck with those.</p>
<p>I think the point is for your brother to show interest and commitment in something over a period of time, but it doesn't have to start right in freshman year. Colleges understand that freshman year is about adjusting and finding your place in high school.</p>
