rahulnirmal2000, if you don't want to drink alcohol, thats fine. But you seriously need to get better reasons than those.

For example if you think the alcohol industry kills people, you are seriously deluding yourself. Thats like saying its the gun makers fault that someone shot another person. Please. The gun manufacturer didn't load the gun and pull the trigger. Likewise, if people get drunk and then go drive a car, its completely that person's own fault. If you want to use your logic, why blame the alcohol - its just a secondary cause of death - technically the rapid decelleration and crushing of metal after the excess speed or crashing kills people. Therefore I propose that car makers shouldn't be allowed to make cars - they kill people!

And the sexism bit - as the old adage goes, "sex sells", and you need to look around if you think the beer makers are the only ones who use good looking people to sell their product. Now notice that I said beer makers. When was the last time you saw a commercial for an upscale wine or champagne that used this strategy? And I can't be sure, but your post makes it sound like you're implying that the whole male population is sexist - again, please reevaluate this view. I won't even go into this one because it will make this post way too long.

I might sound bitter because these are major pet peeves of mine. I absolutely can't stand it when people blame the alcohol, or the guns, or whatever it is rather than blaming the person. Have we suddenly lost our capacity to make choices, because that is the only thing that removes culpability for our own actions.

Ok, again your statements are inappropriate. He is not talking about brain cells or your family. Stop going off topic. Obviously alchohol is is gonna make you gain weight. But mainly i see girl gain weight from heavy drinking rather than guys. Just work out and everything should be fine. Hell i gained, lets see, i started out at 180, and ended at 204 by the end of the year, but that was from food. You just have to watch yourself, if not you better realize soon enough that your gaining weight and start working out like I am

one of me ex-gf's(she broke up with me when she started college) went from 125 lbs. to 145 lbs. by the end of her freshman year (payback is sweet... although i felt bad for her)

probably... she pretty much ruined my life by turning me into a party kid when we started going out. I actually partied with her a couple of times at her college last year and it was pretty insane. She was really depressed about gaining weight b/c in high school she was always known as one of the prettiest girls... well she started working out a lot more and the last time i saw her(about a month ago) she was down to like 130

While alcohol has 7 calories per gram, alcohol causes fat storage at a rate even greater than eating fat (at 9 calories a gram). In other words, if one drank pure alcohol and another ate pure lard (the same number of grams) the person drinking alcohol would store more fat. 115 calories from beer is significantly worse than 115 calories from cheez-its.

Wow...people are getting a little angry in this thread. Well, i think if you don't wanna drink cause its bad for you, then thats your choice. But i see people everyday eating crap that will kill em early, not exercising. The way i see it, most **** is bad for you anyway, i might as well do stuff that i find fun. I think its fine as long as its in moderation.

Oh, and just something i wanted to add, so you hate it cause its against the law? So i bet you ALWAYS follow the speed limit right? ;)

Lose the wieght if you gain it, it's not hard to get up a few tines a week to run, bike, or play some competitive sport (not beer pong). Also, we're losing brain cells everyday, you can't do anything about it unless you want to stop aging by depriving yourself of food.
