Freshmen allowed cars??

Are freshmen allowed to have a car at Wake??

Yes, although you’d have to park it in a satellite lot (it’s not too far of a walk, and there is a shuttle that will take you to it).

Ok thanks!!

I have to warn you that the parking sticker costs big $$$. Not sure what it’s up to now but I’d guess $500+.

^^^ Yes, D paid $500.00 to have a car at Wake this year.

This policy has just been changed - due to lack pf available parking spaces - next year - freshmen will NOT be allowed to bring cars. There were a lot of problems this year with students paying for a parking sticker and then not being able to find a space. They lost spaces when they started building the new feshman dorm. Also, this year’s freshman class is the biggest ever - so the problem was clearly going to get worse. So, the solution was no more parking for freshman.

I may have spoken too fast - Wake is apparently considering ending freshman parking. Here’s a good article about the parking issue from the student paper. [Double Parked Old Gold & Black](http://oldgoldandblack.com/?p=2252)

Thanks for all the help!!!

Chances are pretty good that one of your friends will have a car

Wake Forest also has a zipcar program as of this semester:

Not having a car at Wake is not fun, especially since most freshman’s friends are freshman. The administration needs to stop posturing and actually build the underground parking garage they’ve talked about for a decade.

Actually, my freshman son does not have a car on campus and it has not been a problem, for the most part. He has a few friends on the hall with cars and his RA has a car - so not a big issue. Sometimes, having a car can be a bigger hassle - particularly if parking is difficult.

Yes, I didn’t have a car until Junior year and I honestly use it maybe once a week? It is nice to have when I need one, but I would hardly call it a necessity.

The other problem is that they need to start charging faculty to park on campus (which they do at about every other college campus). There are also plans to get rid of some of those unsightly traffic circles and make the campus much more pedestrian friendly (and aesthetically pleasing).
