Freshmen and Sophs taking AP classes

But on topic: I was under the impression that freshmen weren't allowed (at most schools) to take AP classes because of certain pre-reqs. Besides, wouldn't a school also limit APs taken by sophs? Seems like a no-brainer to prevent premature anxiety about admissions.

Sometimes, somewhere, people do school-related things not just from pure desire to get into good college ;-)

I know that, but you you have to admit that some of the time, if a soph chooses to take an AP class, it stems from wanting to get into a good college.

Fine, I admit it :)
However, in my opinion, restriction on APs for sophomores just for eliminating premature decisions from anxiety about college is not going to do much good. Firstly, it will make life harder for people who are really interested in learning. Secondly, it would eliminate flexible schedule at its meaning -- you can choose car of any color as long as it's black? :) And anyway, what's wrong with such premature action as taking too hard classes?

What needs to be done, I think, is for councelors to learn about situation with colleges right now and do some thoughtful lectures about pro's and con's of taking too many APs.

Touche. :o

You hit the nose on the button there (I never did get that saying).

looking around Who told you I did?

I don't think AP's put anxiety on underclassmen. I'm taking two, and they aren't very difficult.....I don't see why I'd get anxiety. We have about 30 students in my grade (10th) taking AP classes.

Well, the question is, would scared freshman, after seeing this site sign up for 5-6-7 APs?

Some kids really are ready to be doing college level work in high school, and that's why they take the AP's. For the challenge and learning, not to get in to an elite school.

Well, I'm referring to those who take 5 APs, not 2. The fact you are taking an AP shows you know how to handle studying, so 1, maybe 2 wouldn't hurt, but 5 or 6 is ridiculous.

haha, worst bad_boy, YOU'RE A SOPHMORE! I'm a freshman, that's my freshman schedule.

proof of sophmore/AP number. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=2569306#post2569306

I already explained to you that ALL YOUR APs ARE JOKES except for AP Biology so that's sad. You forgot, I'm fluent in CHINESE, I did a program at Yale for it so I have AP Chinese Language as well.

Yeah, Masterus, no one cares.

Frankly Statistics is probably the most useful AP I've ever taken. And programming is a really useful skill too. At least for research.

Masterus, give up. I skipped two years(so technically, I am younger than you), and as I have said, I took AP Bio online.

But, yea I agree with snoopy, overloading kids with APs is not a good thing. Unfortunately my school is allowing some underqualified students take APs. However, I also agree that students who want to take AP because their passionate about the subject or are bored in normal classes should be allowed to even if they are young. (for example, one of my very smart cousins is taking AP Calc as an 8th grader.)

Why is it ridiculuous? If I'm not mistaken, school is still for learning, not for being accepted to Harvard. And taking 5-6-7-8-9 APs is a way to learn more.

Masterus, we're getting a little bit tired of your BS.

Agreed....

No you aren't smarter WORST bad boy, you're as old as me with WORSE APs. I could have did AP Statitics in 8th grade...It's not that hard. I doubt any of your cousins are doing that BECAUSE there is a STATISTICS of the age group taking APs on Collegeboard. 0% for any people lower than 9th grade.

The funny thing is you're in 10th grade and you only have AP Biology as your hardest AP. I never talked about usefulness guys, I'm talking about difficulty. I might drop orchestra because I'm already in the official state orchestra called CYS probably for AP Economics or AP Statistics next year or just focus on getting up to French 5H.

I think if we all ignore him simultaneously that will do much good.

Whoa, put away the claws. Just thinking out loud here :o
True, some take APs to learn more. But, if someone takes 5-9 APs, the workload is way overwhelming and stressful, not a good environment for enrichment. That might be an opinionated statement, but think about it.

Let's just agree that even though increasing number of APs because of some "AP race" is blatantly stupid, taking huge courseload shouldn't be prohibited. Maybe, there are people with 6 APs really wanting to take all of them for educational reasons :)

PS. Sorry if I was a bit harsh in posts :)
