I plan to skip one semseter freshmen biology (plant) and go to animal kingdom.
Is that a good idea?

or I totally opt out 1 year freshmen biology and plan to take upper division biology during my 2nd and 3rd years since I'm a biology major. Does that put me a disadvantage since I took AP biology during my junior year in high school?

Not sure how they do it at duke, but at my school freshmen biology went into more detail than my ap biology class. Usefulness was debatable. It didn't help much with my upper level classes but for others I know, it did.

Do I skip all freshmen bio classes or take one semseter instead?

Its really up to you to decide how comfortable you are with the subject matter. If you want you can skip to the bio 2 and adjust to the bio curriculum at your school before you start classes like genetics, microbio, and evolution.

Try to obtain the syllabus for bio 2 at your school. Look over the topics that will be taught and ask yourself, do I know this information enough to move on?

skip as much evolution, plants, phylogeny that you can. by "animal kingdom" does that mean you learn animal physiology? if so, then i wouldn't skip.

Principles of animal biology including genetics, physiology and evolution of animal diversity. Is this useful? (freshmen biology)

I think the advisor likes me to take cell biology and opt out whole year of freshmen biology due to my AP score. I need a good reasoning skill to sign up for the freshmen biology class. that why I need so much help to get the advisor approval!!
