Can freshmen have cars on campus?

From what I have heard, the answer is no unless you have a really good reason otherwise.

The typical answer is no, freshman and sophomores are not allowed to have cars on campus if they live in university housing. In extreme circumstances, sometimes parking permits are granted to these students. From the TAPS website:

Here is who is allowed to purchase a parking permit:

Also note that parking has become increasingly scarce on campus. There have been days when even juniors and seniors living in university housing have not been allowed to purchase a permit due to too many permits issued for a particular day.

What is the best place to look for off campus parking?

There is limited off campus parking and much of it is not long term. Parking near campus is residential and requires a permit.

This information is, unfortunately, old. However, it should give you a decent place to start. Call and find out if any of these places are still offering parking options to students and what rates and terms will be for the upcoming year. Note that they might not know yet.

i herd their is a church where ucsc freshman can buy permits at, is it true?

Look at the link I posted in post #5. It has information for where you can contact. Yes, the church information is included, but some of them are for commuter students only.

I don’t know or have heard of any freshman with a car on campus.
