Freshmen Fest

I know that there are about a good 10 people who actually post here and the chances are slim, but is anyone else Jewish? Just wondering because the Hillel has a program where we get to move in early. Can't beat that.

I'm Jewish! I was thinking about joining Hillel too, but I'm not positive yet.

I figure I might as well. It will be less stress moving in that day and then I can meet people easier before school starts.

Hey im a Jew too. I'll probably do something with hillel eventually...maybe not right away

The Hillel program is a good one, and anything that will let you move into the dorms early should be taken advantage of! Having lived through freshman move-in to the Russell complex, DD vowed to never do anything like it again. The upperclassmen who were there to help (the Arrival Survival team?) were terrific, and DD's stuff was in her room before we had time to think about where to put it all. Still, it's always a pleasure to avoid that kind of hassle if possible. Also, keep in mind that the holidays are really inconvenient this year - RH is on a Monday and Tuesday, I think, and YK starts on Wed. night and goes through Thursday. If you don't live near UD, you may want to take advantage of Hillel for services, if you generally attend services. If you meet other Hillel members early in freshman year, you'll be more comfortable going there for the holidays.

Ya the high holidays are rough this year. Gonna be a tough fast for YK in college.

So I think I decided to go to Freshmen Fest...it will be great to move in early, plus they deliver your textbooks to you! Did you sign up for the swimming or sports/games on the beach? lol neither option sounds too appealing to me, I'd rather just like relax or something, I'm trying to figure out which requires less exertion/would be more fun...

Haha, I remember thinking the same thing, that neither swimming nor the sports sounded appealing. I think I chose swimming though, cause are they really going to force you to go into the pool?

Good point, at least swimming doesn't require you to be athletic. On the schedule it says the choice of games/chill on beach or swimming (in which case, I'd definately sign up for chill on the beach), but on the registration form it says outdoor sports/activities or swimming (which would be a definate no for sports). lol why do they have to confuse me like that?

I don't know if they'd take us to the beach. I haven't explored Delaware much, but my family went to the beach and I think it took them at least an hour to get there. Who knows, maybe they'll take us.

Don't they call the grassy area in the main part of campus, near the honors dorms, the beach? I didn't mean a real beach, you're right the real one is pretty far. Anyway, what I meant was that area. I wound up signing up for the outdoor sports/activities, I'm hoping it will be ok - and I can't imagine they would get mad if I asked to switch.

Which services did you sign up for, if you did? I'm not that religious, I don't go for shabbot, so I almost circled none, and then wondered what the alternative program would be. I wound up circling conservative, figured I would meet the people I'd later see there for the holidays.

Haha, you're right, they do call that the beach. Oh well. For services I chose reform. I go to a reform temple at home, and while I don't go every Shabbat, its what I feel most comfortable with. I did go to a lot of NFTY events ( I don't know if you know what that is or not), so I'm used to their reform services too.

lol you're right, I have no idea NFTY is. :)

Haha, it stands for National Federation of Temple Youth and its a youth group for reform Jews. Anyone can join obviously, but usually the conservative kids join BBYO or there's another group I can't think of the name of.

Oh yeah I've heard of those types of things, and now your earlier post makes better sense. I think the other group you're probably thinking of is USY, I know that one and BBYO are fairly popular.

I am going to it too. I put conservative

cool. I'll probably see you there then!

Okay, my name is Eli. And the rest of you?

Emilay: NFTY is the North-American Federation of Temple Youth

They changed it from national as to include them Canadian Jews.

I'm a former NFTY-GER (Garden Empire Region) member myself

Well that's cool. Gotta love the Canadians.

And to Eli, my name is Emily.
