Freshmen... So how'd you do on PSATs?

A little late, I know, but I didn't get my results back 'till yesterday.

My dad said that he would disown me if I got anything less than a 220. Asian parents FTW!

CR: 60
M: 61 (quite pathetic considering I'm in calc BC)
WS: 62
SI: 183

My fellow freshmen.. how'd you do? And how do you feel about your scores?
And if you're not a freshman, feel free to post your former scores and show progression!

I’m not a freshman, and I took it for my first time this year as a junior (I didn’t even know freshmen were allowed to take it, and come sophomore year, I didn’t care too much about it). I got 219  and hopefully I made the cut off for national merit in California. Speaking of which, what exactly are the benefits of national merit? I keep hearing about it, but I have no idea exactly what it is.

Nice. The NM is a big scholarship competition, I hear. Should help pay for college (a bit) and look really good on apps.

I don’t know, I did not take it yet.

Sophomore: 204

When I did the questions later at home, some of the ones I missed were so easy! Aarrggghhh. Oh, well, at least it didn’t count.

*** OP your in Calc BC and got a 61M? How weak is your school’s Calc BC class lol.

Pretty weak. XD I think everyone in our class has like a 98 or something.

211 - i am a frosh

National merit is based on your score - and it is different for each state. CB likes to distribute the scores fairly equally across the country. The only test score that counts is the one you take your junior year. You have to get at least a 200 plus to get National merit commended - which is only nice for your resume. If you make semi finalist - then you have to fill out some paperwork, take the SAT and get a reasonably similar score - and then you will be named national merit Finalist. There is a scholarship contest - but the big deal is that a lot of schools will automatically give you scholarships for finalist status (some even give for semi finalist). There are lots of threads on this - including one that has the cut off scores for this year.

That’s a hella good score, mukubird. Congrats!

Yay for grade inflation! :P

I didn’t take the PSAT freshman year, but I got a 210 sophomore year and a 216 junior year. It would’ve been a much higher score junior year if I didn’t make a couple of dumb mistakes on the Math section. I suppose I was getting tired.

^205 Soph and 230 Junior. But I received a 52W sophomore year lol.

thx, fireflake (wow, you are in BC calc, i am still in alg2)

i belong to an asian family as well, my parents made me pay the $15 ($13 registration + $2 interest) for not making 220+

good luck :)

^That’s pretty ridiculous

Sophomore:221, no prep. (but I prepped for SSATs year before, so it carries over)

My parents don’t even know what score I got. They’re really laidback for asian parents (which is really annoying at times).

I got 214 when I was in 9th grade, but that should have been 217 because the question I got wrong on the math was complete BS.
