FreshPerson versus FOOT for pre-orientation

Would love opinions on the FreshPerson versus the FOOT programs at Yale. The FreshPerson seems to give a better opportunity to meet and spend time with a larger number of students, versus the 8 or so at FOOT, but people seem to love FOOT. Do students love the FreshPerson (FPC) also?

thanks!

Sent you a PM.

People often make some of their best friends on FOOT - nothing like six days of wilderness to make fast friends.

FPC is more what you make of it - some freshmen made lasting friendships at FPC, some did not. You do meet more people, but I think FOOT helps everyone overcome their initial social anxiety much more quickly.

I'd definitely say that FOOT is a unique experience...I'd recommend it for almost anyone. But you can't really go wrong with any of the preorientation programs.

I did FOOT and loved it. Sure you're only getting to know 8 to 10 people (including the upperclass leaders) but you become really close with everyone you're hiking with. I still go out with my fellow FOOTies and we're planning a big reunion in the fall. I thought that getting to know a small number of people was a great way to begin my time at Yale. I had 8 to 10 people that I knew well from the beginning, which was a huge relief given how overwhelming move in day and orientation were. I saw so many people I was on new person overload.

I don't know too much about FPC but I have friends who did it. I think they enjoyed the experience, but wished that it lasted longer. Plus, I think because of the large number of people at FPC, it was hard for them to get to know any group of people really well.

My daughter went to FPC and loved it. You probably can't go wrong either way.
