has anyone received this scholarship in the past? just wondering how difficult it really is. i think i have high enough stats but my "leadership" and community service are probably lacking.

Does Fresno list the avg SAT/ACT scores for their Smittcamp students?

How many applicants do they get each year?

How many are accepted?

I can see that you’re a NMSF and an engineering major.

Are you considering any schools that give BIG scholarships for NMFs?

My son was awarded Smittcamp. I think you are competitive.

^^^

What are the average stats?

Did your son enroll?

I would take “Fresnomoms” comments with a grain of salt, since she hasnt chosen to disclose her son’s alleged stats to guarantee acceptance of this award would be applied to this student. Make sure you know what the requirements are to have and keep this award if you need it to enroll.

@mom2ck: no, they dont list the averages.
roughly 600? 50 accepted.
yes i am. i know you are a big supporter of u of alabama. i have decided against this scholarship b/c i would rather not be so far away from home. CA schools or at least west coast are my goal

@fresnomom: ok excellent. a few questions if i may? what were his stats (gpa/sat/act/ap scores), his major, and his ecs?

@bedouin: the requirements are quite vague and very low. from my understanding, a lot more than the requirements are, in fact, required to receive the scholarship. and its basically an honors college full scholarship (except for board). you must maintain a certain gpa (3.?) and do some community service.

thanks everyone! and any more information is greatly appreciated

M2CK

I don’t know the average stats, but in my son’s class, we knew of at least 4 students who were offered the Smittcamp Scholarship.

My son just graduated from a UC.

Swaggg…I pmed you.

thanks fresno mom for the info. and if anyone else has any other pertinent information, i am all ears

I just applied a few weeks ago. Now I’m really curious as to what his stats were. Any chance I can get some info?

well i dont know as to fresnomom’s son’s stats, but i recently saw that the average stats for smittcamp scholars (as high schoolers) were gpa: 3.92 UW, 4.19 W and SAT: 1918

I don’t hear much about Smittcamp, but it seemed worth it to just try for it anyway, and I had some extra time over the winter break to get the application done. Do they request your senior grades? And if they do, when do they do that?

I don’t think they request senior grades. although they do ask what classes you are taking

They mentioned that out of the 50 selected, 40 are from Central valley while the other 10 are from outside Central Valley but still residents of CA.

For 2010, the avg unweighted GPA was 3.92 and SAT was 1918.

Hope it helps!

If my son goes to Smittcamp, can he transfer elsewhere after a year or os or does he have to stay at Smittcamp until graduation?

Are you asking if your child MUST stay at that school?

NO. No school can force a child to stay.

However, be aware that transfer students rarely get good merit scholarships or good financial aid…the best aid/scholarships go to incoming freshmen. So, if aid is an issue, your son needs to pick a school where he’ll stay for 4 years.
