I know that at Columbia there are no classes on Fridays… with the exception of a few sessions with TAs occasionally (but even then you can schedule your classes to avoid this). Is this the same at Barnard?

Generally there are no classes on Friday, but there are some dance classes that meet on Fridays – and there are also some Columbia classes on Friday. (I’m pretty sure that my daughter’s Russian class one year met 5 days a week, including Friday). So I think its more accurate to say that it is unlikely but not impossible that you would have classes on Friday.

Profs sometimes schedule extra sessions or special meetings of classes on Friday, however – probably because the time is generally open for students. I have attended 2 of my daughter’s classes with her. One was on Friday morning. (It was a special review class before a midterm). The other was on a Sunday (special invite-a-guest gathering of a colloquium, snacks provided). Both were led by the regular profs for those classes.

Also science labs and/or recitation will be on Fridays.

There are definitely classes at Columbia on Fridays. For instance: language classes (I always have Russian and Zulu classes on Fridays), or science labs. There are very few classes on Fridays, but they do happen. That being said, all of my Friday classes have been Columbia classes. (But I know for a fact that there are also Barnard classes on Fridays as well.)
