is it true that there are no classes on fridays? or is this just in special scheduling cases?

^most people actually, end on thursday, pretty much 80-90% of people, there are some language classes and some lab sessions, and research classes on friday. but otherwise it's mon&wed class or tue &thur class. it's a brilliant policy, gives you a long weeked, allows you to go to tournaments on the weekend if you're competing in something, allows to do a job for the whole of friday, allows you to prepare for the shabbat day in the afternoon if you're Jewish.

Sometimes a recitation for one of your Monday-Thursday classes will be on a Friday.

This is true for the vast majority of people...and it is absolutely AMAZING! I love having a three day weekend every weekend so much!

If you are studying a language you will have Fri. classes because the language classes meet five days a week.

^ Actually, that's not necessarily true. Most, if not all language classes, have various combinations of days of week and number of hours each day. My son has taken 2 semesters of Spanish and 2 semesters of Italian and never had a Friday class.

All languages do not meet on Friday. My daughter has always taken language, but never had a Friday class. The classes for language have been M-Th. This time she was even considering a language class that met T and Th evenings only. (These are beginning classes because she started a new language at Columbia)
Almost all of her friends have Fridays free too. As was said above, the no Friday class policy made it possible for her to practice her sport on Friday and still have time for the library so she could go to competitions on Saturday or Sunday.

Yes, I've found that most of hte languages for Spanish are either M, Tu, W, Th, M W Th or M Tu Th. The classes that I have on friday are Chem Recitation and Gen Chem Lab.

note: both of which you chose to have....there are plenty of recitation and lab sections on other days.

The few classes that do meet on friday are usually avoidable (i took monday/wed **night **orgo lab sophomore year in order to avoid friday lab). Having friday off is really great for having a job and awesome for partying on thursday night.

so far it seems that friday nights are quieter than thursday/saturday - lots of my friends end up studying on fridays/sundays and partying the other two nights of the weekend.

Kind of. Friday lab was the only session that didn't conflict with my other classes.

my columbia friend just told me of the no friday thing...........you guys are so lucky i can't believe it! Are there other schools with such a policy?
