The original plan was to meet for drinks/dinner at The Rum House on Magazine at around 5PM on Friday, August 23. Since the time we came up with this idea, D1 got a job there and tells me 5PM is fine, but after 6PM, it gets very loud and crowded. I realize not everyone who is interested in getting together will be able to get to the Rum House by 5PM. Does anyone want to revise the plan? Any thoughts/suggestions are welcome.

Thanks Vitrac for being one of the organizers of this get together. Before the meetup was planned, I was going to pick up my daughter after she gets out of the Experience and head to Deanie’s in Bucktown for some BBQ shrimp. I’m happy with your choice and the Rum House banana bread pudding is a lot closer to campus. Wherever we meet on a Friday night in NOLA will usually be busy. If you decide to change locations, parking might be a consideration. I also like Drago’s in Metairie and Acme Oyster House out at the Lake on weekends, when I’m meeting friends, for that reason. Magazine street can be a challenge at times but it will probably be easier for and closer to where most, I guess, will be staying. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing OH2NOLA again.

How far is the Rum House from the Hampton Inn? Is it easier to drive, take the trolley or cab it? I do not know my way around at all…

Bloomy-- The streetcar runs along St Charles. Hampton Inn is near the stop you might get off (Louisiana Ave.) if you were walking to Rum House (walk down Louisiana to Magazine St.). In that heat, I wouldn’t recommend walking tho students do it all the time. In my opinion, a taxi is the way to go. Google it to see what I’m talking about. We are staying at Hampton Inn also!

Hampton Inn for us too! When we stayed there for orientation, we walked to Magazine St and passed Rum House. It is definitely walkable but in the heat, a short cab ride might be a better option.

I am staying with relatives in Kenner, so I will definitely be by car and need to find a parking spot somewhere. I think it’s probably better though to stick close to campus even with the parking issue. We may have better attendance. You guys could all carpool

Who needs Rum House? Let’s meet at Hampton Inn!!! (Just kidding)
My thoughts were that if RH is crowded and noisy, then we should just meet for drinks there, early enough that we can hear each other. Plus our kids may have their own ideas about where to eat. I just wanted an opportunity to meet and talk with my CC comrades.

I don’t think parking is a huge issue if we meet early enough (ie by 5PM). Again, it’s not my party. I will go where the majority says.

Hubby, D and I hope to see all of on Friday. It depends on when we arrive (driving.) I hope to arrive at the hotel on St. Charles by 3pm, and then go to RH for a couple Sazeracs with the CC group! I am open to any other suggestions as to where to meet. RH does sound fun, though.

WhereAreYou, I told hubby that other day that you must be looking forward to the NFL season, since you cheer for a winning team!

Carpooling sounds good to me or taxi…please let me know if you have room for 2 or want to share a cab:)

On another note, I “fixed” my tee shirt. I had to cover up the error made when I tried to get lettering put on at the mall…so don’t poke fun at me. It was the best I could do to salvage what was a good tee shirt!

Waaa! I wish I had an incoming freshman!! I wanna join you!! Will be there in spirit!

Boo… We don’t get in until after 8pm on Friday night. So sorry to miss the gathering.

My sister and I are staying until Monday, if anyone else is around and wants to have a meetup on Sunday! Come to the Davenport at the Ritz!
