I recently found that geoscience would be a much better match for me than chemistry for a Ph.D and future career options. I am in my final semester of biological chemistry at the University of Utah and will be applying for graduate school in the geosciences, possibly concentrating on geophysics. I have no geology courses or background but may extend my graduation to take some.

What would me chances for a good graduate school in geology/earth sciences be? I have about a 3.8 GPA and have been involved in biochem research for a year. Haven't taken the GRE yet, but I usually score well on standardized tests.

Places that look appealing to me are Berkeley, Stanford, UBC Vancouver, UCSB but I have not looked into it much yet. I may not apply until next year, and thus may find a way to gain a little geology experience before applying.

Thanks,
Jonathan
