From US News rank 41 to 48 :(

Wellen - Alright, thanks for specifically jumping to the Davis forum as a UCSB student and rubbing it in. I was admitted to both UCD and UCSB and ultimately picked davis. Why? Well, ranking wise MechE, which is my major, is ranked higher than UCSB.

Anyways, location plays a larger role in chosing colleges. I know a fair amount of people that picked UCD over UCSD because they want to stay in norcal. If you live around the bay or sac, why would you want to drive 4 to 6 hours down to Santa Barbara when you can stay close to home?

My point is, if you live around davis then go to davis. If you live around, lets say irvine, than chose irvine. If you live around davis and go to irvine (vice versa) thats kinda messed up unless you want to get away from home.

Regarding to US News being non reliable - I think the US News do have some validity into what they are rating. If you read my post from above, we are difficent in Alumni givine rate and our class room sizes are big as a public university. Our 4 year graduation rate might be lower because we are the largest UC campus and people have to compete to find the right classes. But that just explains what we need to work on, campaign for alumni giving and fix UCD population. In that sense more students will be able to get the classes that they need and have a smaller and better learning environment.

Hey now, I didn't say UC Davis is bad... maybe UCSB is just BETTER? j/k I totally agree with you all that UCD =UCSB. I wouldn't mind going to Davis at all... I was just pointing out that prestige comes from the rankings for most incoming freshmen. I mean seriously, would you pick Fordham University over Tulane U.?

Once again-
Academically speaking-
UCI, UCD, UCSB are all about the same, though one can give a slight edge to the school of his choice. In my field, at least, that edge would undoubtedly go to UC Davis, but in physics for example, UCSB can compete with top 20 colleges due to their amount of noble laureates in the field. All three are about the same, maybe one year UCI is ranked higher, another UCSB, another Davis. After all, even IVY's change spots by those rankings. Also consider that the amount of schools tied for a spot and you would technically find UCD 1 spot behind UCSB which is IMO.....frankly negligible. So to all you seniors out there, come check out UC DAVIS, UCI, UCSB, UCSD, Cal and UCLA and decide which is the right school for you. (And don't dismiss UCSC, UCR or UCM either)

GO AGGIES! The BEST UC out there!

As expected, this ranking is indeed an error as described in this article:
http://www.californiaaggie.com/article/?id=10027

Please disregard the "Drop" in rankings. We are a university going uphill not downhill!

I'm very happy that the drop turned out to be because of erroneous reporting(the SB pigs can stop squealing now) but I'm ****ed that the administration could do such a thing.

I mean, c'mon now, how can you mis-report your own schools information? This should have never happened in the first place.

Oh well, at least we know that without the error we actually gained a spot and are still ahead of SB and Irvine. I knew with all of our advancements something had to be wrong.

Cheers!

In reality we're rank 45 and UCD is 48....LOL Get over the error. If there's really a big error maybe UCD do not belong in the Top 50. Can you imagine all the research being done in Davis having erroneous outcome? Just teasing,,,,heheh. BTW, UCSB forgot to mention to the US News that we have the hottest chicks on campus... ERROR! lol

Interesting news.

That clears up a lot of unanswered questions.

It's kind of funny that this news has clearly ruined wellendowed1's fun.

Still having fun... we have the beach and you guys have the cows lol =) I heard UCD won first place for NCAA Cow Tipping heheh... Hey guys, been fun. Trust me, was just trying to make the forum interesting. Rankings are full of crap even though UCSB is ranked better than Davis heheh... Till next time. Auf wiedersehen!

I don't mean to get confrontational, but I don't see how mindless jokes about a school make a forum dedicated to that school interesting.

wellendowed1? what is (s)he doing here?

Not much.

She doesnt really seem to have much to do in her life..

lol..
she doesnt have to get jealous or envious on anything
i mean..Davis has the standard and potential to be better than SB and that's the fact..
nothing more to argue about...
but if she would like to stay on Davis board...why not?
we are like a big family to fight against the outsiders :P

Actually, by some accounts...... http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2005/0509.collegeguide.html
We are ranked even higher than some Ivy Leagues and right behind Harvard!
So Go AGGIES and don't let an error mislead you to thinking we are anything but the BEST! Ranked #17 nationally, but by my account #1......Hope you feel the same way!

lol
but somehow i am just so used to look at US news..
cuz that's where i looked when i applied to schools and wrote applications..
but it's alright
it was just a mistake afterall~

keep thinking that

just remember that UCSC has higher SATs than UCDavis

that is no mistake~

^State your sources.

UCSC 1050-1280
UCD 1040-1280

check the actualy USNews at a bookstore

you only know the "USNEWs" at a bookstore....
why dont u check the stats that we have posted for u?
easier and faster..
clearer and more convincing ;)

hhhsandy

the links are valid too but on USnews UCSC has a higher SAT score than UCDavis. Perhaps this is an error and your school newspaper will write another sorry excuse why UCDavis will fall out of top 50
