Hey ya'll

I am a student at UT Austin with Biology major, I've been in school since 06'. From 2006 till now, I took a few years off due to my person issues, I've been in probation, and etc.,

I am omw to go back to school in 2014 Spring and finish up my degree within 2~3 semesters, however, I was thinking that even if I graduate from UT Austin, with my low GPA I don't have much of an option in my career as well as graduate school. So I was thinking about transfer to UTD and make a fresh start, change my major and stuff.

I checked UTD's transfer policy and try to find some posts here and online, and I couldn't really find a thing about transferring, so anyone has any idea how the process going to work? my GPA is below 2.5 at UT, and UTD policy says that its minimum gpa has to be above 2.5.

Please help me out about these info.

Thanks

Are you currently on probation or in bad standing?

yes I’m on probation right now

You will not be admitted to UTD if you are in bad standing, on probation or cannot get an official transcript.

If you are able to get off of probation would you still be interested in attending? If yes, what is your GPA?

Applicants with 42+ transferable credit hours. Must satisfy all of the following criteria to qualify for assured admission:

A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5

Be in good standing from the last college or university attended

Would I still not get accepted as probation standing even if I submit my ACT score and high school transcript?? I had really good score on ACT top99 percentile and I was in top 15% of my class

If you have more than 30 hours - your high school transcript and ACT bascially mean nothing. Your college transcript speaks louder.

Also it doesnt matter if your GPA is a 4.0. If you are on probation, you will not be considered for admission.

I was dismissed from UT last year and am currently taking some extension courses to bring up my GPA. My GPA is below 2.0 right now but will be close to 2.0 by the end of this year.

So I can’t transfer to UTD right now with my stand right?
I wanted to transfer because it costs me money to take those extension classes and also even if I get back to school, my gpa is gonna be bad for everywhere even after graduation.

Thanks

Not right now, but all hope is not lost. Complete at least one semester at a community college (keep in mind you may need more than one) and make an all As/Bs. take serious classes -not music theory or PE, take a math, sci or lit. it will also be cheaper than the extenison courses.

Below a 2.0 will not get you admitted as a transfer student to many public colleges - UT Arlington is a 2.25, UNT Denton a 2.25 to a 2.75 depending on major, Texas Tech 2.25 to a 2.50, 2.0 at SFA, etc.

if you are serious about transfering you will need to do some GPA repair and have a good plan. It may be time to develop relationships with transfer admission staff.
