Frustrated and Confused-UT chances

I won't make this a full blown chances thread, I just have an inquiry:

I'm applying to the University of Texas. I'm in the second decile of my class (~15/75), with a 94.5 weighted GPA. My March SAT scores were:
Critical Reading 660
Math 630
Writing 740

Pretty good, but I figured I neededhigher for UT. So here are my December scores:

Critical Reading 670
Math 610
Writing 800

50 higher total, but UT really only looks at the first 2 sections. I'm afraid that with a 2nd decile rank and a 1290 SAT score that Im facing deferral. Is it possible for me to maybe get into the journalism school if I play up my 800 on the writing section and my 5 on the AP English language test?

It's hard to say. You may be offered guaranteed enrollment after a year or two at another UT campus. They are doing that alot now.

I guess so. Arrgh, why did my 60 point section boost have to come in writing!?

Could someone tell me what, if any, this 800 in writing has, as well as the 5 I got on my AP English lang test? Wouldn't that make me an attractive candidate for the school of journalism?

Bumpage...

the average score at UT Austin is a 1230

your 70 above that, with an 800 in writing

Your probably in if your in state

Well they dont mix and match, so Im 60 over my first test, 50 over on my 2nd test with the 800. The thing is though, that score is brought down my people top 10% at non competitive high schools who score poorly on the SAT. I'm afraid that since Im out of the top 10% I would need 1320ish to secure my spot. I am in state though.

Which schools in the UT system offer the transfers if you have a 3.5 gpa? UT Arlington UT San Antonio, and who else? I wish UT Dallas was in that group, but its not.
