Someone said by March 1. But I understood that there would be 2 waves. The first wave already went out in January. So the next one should be soon. If not by March 1, then by early March. The Fry tops off all other scholarships received from IU to equal tuition/fees/room/board.
@itsgettingreal17 Thanks! My son applied for the January 15th deadline so I’m guessing he’d be part of the second wave. Do you know if you only hear from them if you are awarded the scholarship? Or will they also notify you if you did not get it?
TIA
I don’t know. But if he has the stats, he’ll probably get it. They award a lot of them (30ish, I think). 32+ ACT/equivalent SAT seems like it’s a pretty safe bet.
On a less happy note I want to let other parents know what is going on at IU with their Fry Scholarship (by invite only for URMs that are directly admitted to the Kelley business school) so I am sharing this post that I wrote today for FB today:
I finally lost my mind and went Rambo Mom on IU!
I feel better about telling the head of the Fry scholarship that their process is duplicitous and misleading.
He was borderline condescending until I explained that I would be sending a detailed letter to the the Fry family explaining how IU misleads these students…I swear I heard the guy choke on his coffee. He suddenly became very solicitous. My problem is IU states the scholarship is “rolling” to string kids along for months when in fact it is a tiered system that picks students for an initial round in January while they tell the rest “we are still evaluating your application” as IU waits to hear what the first tier decides. This is unbeknownst to the waiting applicants who have no idea they are second choice. Thankfully another kind parent clued me in and IU was forced to come clean when I called for information yesterday
I can take a straight " no" but I can’t stand a shady “maybe” hence my call today. At the end Mr. Condescending
was apologizing all over himself and assuring me the process would be evaluated for next year.
I may not have accomplished anything but at least they now know that someone is aware and called them out on it…
I am at peace and hope this post will help other clueless parents like myself.
My son received an email last week telling him they are still evaluating. With your response I’m guessing he shouldn’t be to excited about this email cause it sounds very slim that he has a chance on getting it.
Im an US citizen living in Greece. I got accepted in Kelley B. school, my SAT scores were 770 Math-700 Reading. Do you think i will be getting a scholarship ?
@Mcam They are waiting to hear back from the first wave of students, who were given a deadline of April 1. Then they will determine whether they need to award additional scholarships to hit their intended number.
I’ve been lurking for awhile and only made an account now to ask a question, but I was lucky enough to receive the scholarship. I applied on the due date of February 15th, received a request for an interview five days later, and finally was notified of receiving it on March 1st. They even sent people to have dinner with my family recently. I have until May 1st to make a decision as well.
My daughter was a Kelley graduate a few years ago. She too went in with high hopes of nabbing one of the prestigious scholarship like the Wells (she was nominated by admissions) or the Kelley scholar award. Like all of you, she was a top student. IU still rewarded her through the department of admissions, the honors college and she got a Kelley direct admit scholarship - stacked 3 scholarships. Each year from October to March she researched additional scholarships and re-applied every year. She also got scholarships from Women in business and from AKPsi (as a member) and ended up in the prestigious business honors leadership program. She graduated completely debt free. The committees who distribute scholarships don’t really know you and only have a general idea of what you are cabable of. You will have countless opportunities to make your mark and seek additional funding. She absolutely loved her time at IU.
