Hi, I applied for the Fry Scholarship at IU. They said that we would hear back mid-January if we applied by the January 5th priority deadline. Has anyone heard back yet? Has anyone received a request for a phone interview?
Son applied by 1/5 deadline as well and has not heard anything either.
Do you think they will notify by email? Other people have said they got requests for phone interviews.
They said in an email that people will be notified mid-January to mid-March. From what I have read so far, the first wave of notifications goes out in January and then a second in March. Last year 32, students received the award. I do not know how many apply but the award is geared towards URM that are direct admits into the Kelley School of Business. I applied as well and am anxiously waiting. Here is a link to last years blog post about the Fry Scholarship winners:
Hello, I was invited to apply for the Fry Scholarship. I was hoping to get some feedback from other students or parents whose children applied for this scholarship. I applied in January and I was wondering how long does it take to receive a response? I am not able to get a clear answer from the school. Also, any idea how many students apply and how many are actually awarded this scholarship?
Thank you.
My understanding is that those that move on in the process are contacted to have an interview. I am not sure if the interview request is communicated by e-mail or a phone call.
Has your son or anyone been contacted for an interview?
He has not been contacted. We are OOS so we really don’t know any other person who is an IU Kelley DA and applied for the Fry.
I am OOS and applied so I’m trying to see if anyone else did. Hopefully we’ll hear something this week or next week.
@Hoosierdaddy123 I applied to the fry scholarship program the day before the 1/5 deadline. They called and emailed me with an interview offer on January 7th. I set up January 19th (last Friday) as my interview date. Today, I got a call that I recieved it!!
I don’t think the delay is to say that they’ve made their final decisions (It’s good that you applied by the deadline because they used to have 2 deadlines and they kept people in the second deadline in a holding pattern while the 1st deadline recipients decided - you can ask @Cubanmom3 - so I’m pretty sure you haven’t been rejected or anything). This means that they’ll probably let you know sometime within the next week.
Good luck to you! Sorry if I sounded snobbish above or confused you. Feel free to PM me if you need more help.
Hi I don’t know how to PM. So does this mean I didn’t get it? Sorry I’m alittle confused. Do I still have a chance?
@Hoosierdaddy123 it doesn’t mean that you didn’t get it. It means you still have a great chance but they just have so many candidates that it takes time to make the decision.
Hi! Thank you so much for your response. Hopefully I’ll hear some good news or any news before the end of January! Are you out of state? Stats?
@hoosierdaddy123 no problem, I’m glad to help! I know you’ll hear great news :))
I am from central MD (so yes I’m out of state). I have a 3.9 Weighted and a 33 ACT composite (took it twice, got the 33 the second time).
@bigboyk_ Thanks for sharing your stats and information.
Yeah. I don’t know if I’m going to get it. My GPA is the same but my ACT is lower. I guess I’ll find out soon.
Thank you for all your comments and feedback. I am happy to share with you that I received an email last evening informing me that I was selected to receive the scholarship. This was incredible news! I also heard that there is still a second wave of students who have not yet received a response, so if you have not heard yet, it doesn’t mean that you will not be selected for an interview, etc. . Good luck to you!
@DAKelley Congrats! Did you also have to interview as part of the process?
@DAKelley Congratulations! I hope I’ll see you at IU and that we can be Fry Buddies :)) ! In fact, can you please pm me your # so I can make a GroupMe?
@whs2016 no problem at all. @hoosierdaddy123 To get into IU as a direct admit, one must meet a 3.8 and a 30 by November 1st. I read on some threads that they selected kids with a 32+ ACT and comparable SAT score to apply, but how many minority kids have the stats needed to meet that threshold? many minority kids with scores like that tend to use IU as safeties - they have 2 waves because they know minority kids with those stats have a lot of scholarship offers and other top schools they can choose from. Think about it from that perspective - you have an amazing chance. I know you’ll snag Fry bro, just keep the faith.
