Per FSA: Federal Student Aid has identified an issue during FSA ID registration that is caused when the user enters one or more additional spaces after the last typed letter in the last name field. Even if the user links their new FSA ID account to their PIN during registration, this issue can result in the FSA ID account appearing as if a match with the Social Security Administration (SSA) was not conducted. This issue will be resolved this weekend, for new FSA ID account creation as well as for users who have already created an FSA ID and are encountering this issue.
Here is an important thing to know: an e-mail address may only be linked to one FSA ID account, not shared by another account. Frustrating, yes … but I notice a lot of sites won’t let me set up two secure accounts with the same email address.
THANKS, @ kelsmom I am rather certain that’s what she did.
And there was NO disclosure that an FSA ID can only be linked to one email account. Kind of frustrating. Lots of high school seniors have all financial aid stuff sent through a parent’s email. For that matter, lots of high school seniors use as their personal email their school email, which may not work after graduation.
Sometimes I wonder about the test process that gets used, or doesn’t get used. I wonder what happens when someone with only one name attempts to set up a FSA ID? (For that matter, the instructions direct people to use their name as it appears on their social security card, and that isn’t exactly a document a lot of people have to hand.)
I think this is all going to be a huge challenge for College Goal Sunday next year. Sigh.
HMMMM. We might have an issue. I think our PIN numbers were initially set up using my (parent) email address. But both kids have likely updated with current email addresses…I hope.
DD changed her PIN to the username/password protocol this week with no difficulties that she noticed. She even logged in to do her MPN for the upcoming college year.
Guess I need to do mine!!
The parental email addresses listed on the actual FAFSA forms for my daughters actually are not the same as the ones used to create the new FSA IDs. I actually created a new gmail address for myself because I was not able to use my existing email address across multiple students to create the FSA IDs; however, I noticed when reviewing the the actual completed FAFSA forms, that my original email address is still listed and does not match the one set up for the FSA ID. The parental email address address on the FAFSA for each daughter is my original email and is the same on both of their forms.
The confirmation emails that both FAFSA forms were processed came to the my original email address. The new gmail address that I created for the FSA ID was only used to actually set up the new ID and for the security code verification for the new FSA ID, and no other confirmation emails were received with the new address. This process seems very convoluted!
they should have held this FSA ID change off until november-december of this year so it would be effective jan 2016
now it is confusing everyone!!
Actually…no. It’s better they are doing it NOW rather than when a ton of new students are applying. This way some of the rest of us can be done with this process…and also the kinks can be worked out before fafsa submission time happens.
Is anyone having trouble linking their FSA ID to the IRS data retrieval tool? I keep getting the message The FSA ID you provided does not match the parent information provided on the FAFSA. I’ve checked everything, any ideas on how to fix this?
Check and see which parent “signed” the FAFSA and make sure it is the same parent who is trying to link for the DRT/
(If Mary originally signed as the parent, but Bob set up the FSA ID, that might be mismatch.)
