sean you need to call.

Update…Just found out that D is offered the Tuition Reduction Scholarship and University Freshman Scholarship. This will make comparing schools a little more interesting.

Congrats, NCDanceMom!

S was also offered Tuition Reduction Scholarship and University Freshman Scholarship (so I assume will get admitted to Honors). In his case, the Tuition Reduction Scholarship won’t apply, because although he is OOS for admissions, he is in-state for tuition because we used to live there and purchased the Florida Prepaid Tuition Program. On the upside of that, there will be a Tuition Reduction Scholarship they can offer to some other deserving OOSer!

Accepted for Fall
ACT: 30
APs: 4, a 5 in AP Lang so far, all honors in core subjects excepting one science and one math class
GPA: 3.85/4.4
Hoping for that Honors Program invite!

Accepted (fall). :)

Major: Physics
HS Unweighted GPA: 3.5
HS Weighted GPA: 4.6
SAT: 1840
Clubs: 2
Service Hours: 75
AP Classes: 5

How long until I hear about financial aid?

i called in this morning before school and i was told i was admitted but i still have no email confirmation and my online status has not changed but i was assured i was in.

p.s. i just tried to apply for housing and it says i have not yet been admitted. im really worried.

Don’t worry, sean5492 – if admissions says you are in, the rest will take care of itself. Congratulations!

i was accepted in the fall but just found out that i got the Tuition Reduction Scholarship!

That’s awesome; congrats!

Thanks! It takes a big chunk put of my tuition. So does the $8050 of grant money! Haha

Hello All!
This question is for anyone who cares to share an answer, but i wondered specifically of those with FSU experience (like parent2noles) might have any thoughts.

D was accepted to FSU (hooray!) and it is her top public choice. with little money and fewer prospects, the financial aid she was offered makes FSU also my top choice (financially). so - with the wished-for catch in the net - a school she LOVES and money that makes it doable - I’m ready to send in an admissions deposit.

the hitch is that she’s waiting to hear from three dream schools (one of which she’s gotten into, but the financial aid isn’t in yet, the other two we’re waiting for both admission and financial aid decisions, both are known for great aid).

i’m thinking i should send in the deposit - let’s say there’s an 89% chance that FSU is the school she’ll be attending. i’m anxious to get her an early orientation date and to getting the host of other tasks and to-do’s started!

is there any down side to sending in an admissions deposit and deciding later (before May 1) to go to a different school? (again, besides losing the admissions deposit) or is this something people do all the time?
problems with withdrawing before scheduling clases?
beurocratic issues?
morally rehensible in the way-too-selfish department?
financial concerns?
anything?

You just don’t put more than one deposit down. So if you put in a deposit with FSU and she decides to go elsewhere, you CALL and EMAIL to say that she has changed her mind and that you are withdrawing her admission. It is not a big deal. Just let them know so that it opens up a possible slot for someone else.

Even after May 1, there are kids everywhere who come off waitlists, who then withdraw their admission from their original college or U, which can open up a slot (if they are not overenrolled) for still another student.

It is totally ethical and all you are out is your deposit.

thanks so much sunny!

wouldn’t want to do anything that made life more difficult for another student!

glad to hear it’s a pain-free process.

hope others share your view! :)

One thing I kinda always wondered about is how much information about individual applicants might be shared by the Florida public universities. Is there a shared database that all the different universities can access about applicants with the different schools. Do schools know what other schools each applicant might have applied to and their status in application priocess, who’s been accepted where, or who’s made admission deposits. Probably there is no sharing of this info between schools, but might applicants have authorized this info sharing in the application fine print somewhere? Anyone know for sure?

Well I do know that in Florida, our social security numbers and basic school info. are linked together in a private system for colleges and high schools to see. That’s how UF and some other school (FSC?) got my SAT scores without me even sending them…

I think there is more going on in the background with info sharing than some people might realize. My old high school principal for instance said he gets reports on his high school kids in Florida state universities–reports like their GPAs in college so the high schools and school districts can gauge how the high schools are doing preparing kids.

I got accepted in December but never posted.

GPA- 3.8 W Top 10%
EC- Part time job, spring crew, 2 honor soiceties, and a few clubs
Sat- 1780

@ Same Old Thing
are you going to petition to get into honors?

Dnerd, actually, no social security numbers are involved. But students names, their school ID number (which by law can no longer be the SS), their grades, and SAT’s are available to Florida colleges and universities via FACTS.org. There is no info on acceptances, deposits, etc. You can access your account and check for accuracy at FACTS.org. This is also how Bright Futures gets their info.

Well my guidance counselor said it was linked to my social security number, and the SSN is what we (the students in my county) use to login for FACTs.org so…
