<p>I already had a SunTrust student checking account, and I thought we had to "link" the bank account to our student account. But when I got my card, I asked how to do that since I already had a bank account, and she said you don't.</p>
<p>Well.. How are they linked? I clearly missed something.</p>
<p>Go to Secure Apps -> Account Refund Set up (it’s at the top).</p>
<p>Select option 1:</p>
<p>I authorize FSU to deposit my net refunds and financial aid proceeds into my FSUCard account at SunTrust via EFT, including loans. I authorize FSU to process financial aid received electronically and to endorse any award checks for deposit into FSU’s bank clearing account on my behalf, to deduct all University charges and educationally related fees, including prior year charges, if they exist on my account and disburse net EFT funds to my account. I understand that I will be notified when these transactions occur. </p>
<p>It might already be selected, as I believe that’s the default. After drop/add week, your bright futures will automatically be added to your account. Very comparable feeling to Christmas. :D</p>
<p>If we go with option 2, what do we put as our “local address”? Would that be our dorm address (u-box)?</p>
<p>Option 2 is simply whatever address you want the check delivered to. Your UBOX if you are obviously on campus, or your mailing address if off campus. </p>
<p>I would reccommend using the suntrust account deposit, its the fastest and safest way for excess financial aid. : )</p>

<p>I never opened the Suntrust account because right before orientation I had opened a new student checking account with Bank of America :/</p>
<p>Actually, I had the same problem and they said that even if you had a Suntrust student account, you had to open up a new one to go along with your card… It’s pretty stupid imho, but that’s how it is.</p>
<p>Dnerd, my understanding is that you only have to open up a Suntrust account IF you want to link your FSU card to a suntrust checking account (and use it as a debit card).</p>

<p>If you want to get your funds disbursed to your Suntrust account, you have to set it up with your FSU card, but you can’t use a pre-existing student account. I guess what you basically have to do is get the FSU card before the debit. That’s the problem I ran into… I tried getting ahead, but that just put me further behind so I have to get it whenever the card office opens back up (assuming it’s not open on the 18th).</p>
<p>Oh got it, I misunderstood you the first time :). Yeah, I think I’m just going to get the check mailed to me because I don’t see the point in having two checking accounts.</p>
<p>Unless there’s some penalty for closing your Bank of America account, I’d recommend making the switch. Besides the direct deposit thing, there’s a Suntrust Bank right on campus. Not sure how many trips you’ll be making to the bank, but it’s definitely a nice convenience.</p>
<p>Matt, you make a very good point. Once I get to Tallahassee I think I will get the Suntrust account since it seems much more convenient to have.</p>
<p>The Suntrust branch on campus is right next to the bookstore, and the ATM’s are also very convenient. Having the account linked to the FSU card is handy. You can use the FSU card and get a VISA ATM card. Why two? You can cruise campus with just your FSU card and your room key. You can use the card on campus AND anywhere you can enter a PIN on a PIN pad on or off campus, in or out of TALLY. You just can’t use it as a charge card where you sign. But you can get a SUNTRUST Visa ATM that you can use as a VISA off campus where you want to charge and they don’t have a PIN pad. So when you have your wallet, use your VISA ATM. Cruising campus with the basics, take just your key and your FSU card.</p>
